A Very Krampus Christmas



Today is the big day! I've been hard at work on "A Very Krampus Christmas," a 40 page illustrated book for adults that tells the untold origins of Krampus for modern days. I'm trying to raise $1,500 to get the first edition of the book printed, and so I launched a kickstarter campaign to try and reach that goal.  There are lots of cool perks for people that back this project, including Krampus postcards designed exclusively for this campaign, limited edition prints, tee shirts, and, of course, actual copies of the book. Justin Headley Logo Design

I designed this logo for Pensacola drummer, Justin Headley. Justin gets a new design made each year or so to have printed on his kick drum head, and this year he hired me to design it. Justin is easily spotted driving around town in an old hot rod truck, so he has been inadvertently branding himself for years; all I had to do was illustrate his truck and tie it together with and old school sans serif typeface. I can't wait to see this printed on his bass drum head!

Blues Angel Music Logo

Last summer, I was working as a guitar technician at Blues Angel Music. Their logo was a bit , um, dated, so I decided to design them a new one. I approached them with an earlier version of this design, which was rejected. I submitted the same design to the local division of the Addy's, where it won a silver in the student logo category. While putting together my portfolio, I redesigned the logo, which I am much happier with. The store still uses their original, bitmap, pixellated logo.

Marc Maron

This is an illustration I did of comedian/WTF host, Marc Maron. I used to always have the T. V. playing in the background while I work, but it was either too distracting, or I'd miss important parts of my favorite shows. Pandora was fun to listen to, but I found myself putting down my pen to skip songs constantly. Finally, I gave podcasts a try, and at the top of my list of favorites to listen to while working is This American Life and WTF. Marc favorited and RT'd my tweet of this illustration yesterday, which is always a nice stroke to the ego.

Collateral Materials

One of my projects for my Graphic Design II class was to design a comprehensive collateral campaign for a product or event of my choosing. I decided to pick a real museum, the T. T. Wentworth Museum of Northwest Florida, and to promote a fake exhibit, The Osteo Cryptid Collection. Cryptids, for those who are unfamiliar, are essentially animals that have not been proven to exist, such as Bigfoot or La Chupacabra.

The biology department at school had recently been donated hundreds of animal skulls, and the art department was given access to any of the skulls. I picked out a a handful of skulls, photographed them, and then photoshopped different skulls together to create my cryptic beasts. The following is my collateral campaign.




Digital Billboard Campaign
The first piece for my campaign was a digital billboard campaign. Throughout the day, the billboard would rotate between the four designs. The copy and background color/texture would stay the same, but each time a different cryptid would be featured.

Brochure
This four page brochure would be given away at the museum and would serve as a rack card in visitor and welcome centers. The front and back cover (top) displays Goat Boy, and the poster artwork with a description of the event. The inside pages features illustrations of the full skeletons of the four featured creatures with background information and scientific names.

Direct Mailer
The direct mailer postcard features the skull and Dolphimpanzee on the back, and the front is an invite to the event, with the skeleton illustration of Dolphimpanzee in the background.

Poster
This 11" x 17" poster would be sold in the museum's gift shop. It features an illustration of the silhouette of a Fallow Wolf howling at the skull of a Cat-Hog. 
Tee Shirt
The last piece of the campaign is a tee shirt to be sold in the museum gift shop, along with the poster.

Colonel Gentleman Gig Posters

 In preparation of my band's, Colonel Gentleman and the Intangible Fancies, upcoming E. P. release, I went ahead and designed three gig posters for a currently not booked E. P. release show. I repeat: The dates and location for this show are fictional, and were only put as place holders for design purposes. 

   The idea was to create a gig poster for each song from the E. P. (I still have one left to finish.) The posters will be placed around town as advertisements for the show, and will be given away as part of an imdi go-go campaign. The remaining prints will be sold at the show.

   For these gig posters, I pulled inspiration from the recordings, and each poster illustrates a line or two from a different song. I've always had this idea to create a music video for "Oh! Whiskey," the disc's title track, using felt board illustrations reminiscent of those used in Sunday School. I decided to use the gig posters and the album art to test out this aesthetic. I illustrated each poster in Adobe Illustrator, then exported to Photoshop. I picked up a bunch of felt sheets from Michaels, scanned them in, then filled each color in Photoshop with the felt texture.
